Driving E-Scooters

Learning to use e-scooters properly is an important part of a safe, fun, and successful ride.  Review the information below to start your next adventure.

How to go

Step-by-step instructions on how to go:

  1. Open the HFX e-Scooters app

  2. Scan the QR code on the handlebar of the e-scooter you want to rent

  3. Accept terms and follow the prompts to unlock

  4. Put on your helmet

  5. Grasp the handlebar with both hands

  6. Push the kickstand into the upright position with your foot

  7. Use your foot to give a push forward to enable the throttle and then push down on the throttle located on the right handlebar

Battery life

The amount of driving time per battery charge changes depending on speed mode and terrain.

Check the battery life when you scan the QR code. Do not rent e-scooters with 20% or less battery life. While riding, monitor battery life on the e-scooter’s display panel.

Your e-scooter will not function under 15% battery life. Your trip will end at 15% battery life and the e-scooter will go offline.

You can leave the e-scooter where it is, safely out of the way of the public.

How to stop

The hand break is the only method of slowing or stopping.

  1. Pull the hand break located on the left or right handlebar

  2. Do not step on the rear fender

Geo-fence

Our e-scooters will only work within the town of Wolfville. Speed may be reduced in certain areas. Be aware of riding zones.

On the HFX e-Scooters app, after you scan the scooter QR code, you will see a city map with a white geo-fence overlay, along with riding and restricted zones. Stay within that area and you will be fine!

If you leave the operational area the e-scooter will notify you that you are outside the geo-fence and disable the throttle. You will need to manually push the e-scooter back into the geo-fence.

Speed

There are three different speed settings:

Full Speed:
The speed is set to a maximum of 25 km/hr by law. This means there is automatic breaking in instances, such as going downhill, when you might otherwise exceed that speed.

Slow Zone:
In designated slow zones, indicated on the map as yellow spaces, the speed is restricted to a lower speed and will adjust automatically.

Restricted Zones:
These are designated in the app as red zones. The scooters will not operate in these areas and the scooter will automatically shut off in these areas.
